Ericsson and Telenor R&D to test convergent and seamless IMS services

STOCKHOLM -- Ericsson and Telenor R&D are set to run tests on Ericsson's IMS solution for convergent services. This Ericsson IMS solution will offer a seamless customer experience with personalized, context-aware services and applications independent of location, network, platform, media type and device. Several activities are planned for 2006.

Telenor R&D's convergence configuration includes Ericsson's IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) that enables an efficient evolution to all-IP with new revenue generating and cost-saving applications. As a first step, the IMS system is tested with Ericsson's weShare application giving users the ability to share media during an ongoing mobile phone call, and IMS Multimedia Telephony, allowing multimedia services, including voice and content to be delivered over broadband networks that use IP technology.

The system also includes Ericsson's triple play enabled IP-based broadband system, home gateways and base stations for public WLAN.

Hans-Christian Haugli, CEO Telenor R&D, says: "With these activities we build valuable insight and technical experience based on various network configurations and scenarios, both end-user services and the back-end systems in an IMS perspective. As the distinction between fixed and mobile services will disappear in the future, it is important for us to test convergent services and how this will enhance the experience of our customers. Inviting Ericsson to take part in the tests was natural based on their strong position on IMS solutions".
