STOCKHOLM -- Tellas, the leading wireline alternative operator in Greece, has selected Ericsson as Solution Supplier and System Integrator for its Video Call Service offering to fixed subscribers. This is the first such service launch in Greece and one of the very few in Europe today.

Video Call Service offers an enriched communication experience to end-users (domestic and business) and is available to all subscribers of Tellas fixed telephony services. By using an SIP-enabled video-phone terminal, Tellas subscribers will be able to make and receive both normal voice calls as well as video calls simply by using their existing telephone connection. The Video Call Service is currently offered over normal PSTN or ISDN lines, which makes it very attractive for any fixed telephony user in Greece.

"By being the first to launch yet another innovative service in the Greek market, easily accessible to all, Tellas confirms once again its ability and commitment to offering advanced telecommunication services to the Greek people," said Andrea Costa, Vice-Chairman & CEO, Tellas. "We have had a successful relationship with Ericsson since our first day of operation and Ericsson has proven its commitment and ability in delivering this solution as well," added Costa.

"We are pleased that Tellas has entrusted Ericsson as the System Integrator and Supplier of such an advanced Solution, which is being launched for the first time in Greece and is one of the few implementations in Europe," said Bill Zikou, President, Ericsson South East Europe. "This contract further strengthens our relationship with Tellas and confirms our commitment to the development of the Greek market."

Under the agreement, Ericsson has seamlessly integrated the provided solution into the existing TDM and IP network of Tellas. The offered solution is part of Ericsson's total offering for a full-fledged multimedia service platform, including future broadband IP applications.
