Cisco's Nuova News

3:15 PM -- Cisco Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CSCO) has some kind of announcement coming in a few minutes from its Partner Summit, which is in Honolulu this year. (Amazingly, I didn't get budget clearance to attend.)

Dunno what the news will be. But the speaker list includes Soni Jiandani, VP of marketing for Nuova Systems Inc. , the virtualization company founded by vets of Cisco spin-in Andiamo. (See Cisco/Andiamo Vets Try Something 'Nuova'.) So, virtualization is a decent bet.

re: Cisco's Nuova News Okay, this is odd.... Nuova appears to be, in part, preaching "data center Ethernet," a way to run lossless 10GE throughout the data center. No spanning tree.

On the (very shallow) surface, that's similar to PBT, isn't it? Did Cisco/Nuova really need to invent something new here? We'll have to learn more about data center Ethernet later.

re: Cisco's Nuova News Here's the deal: Cisco is acquiring the 20% of Nuova it doesn't already own. Nuova is also launching its product today.
