Cisco WiMax Devices?

10:20 AM -- So what WiMax devices do we think Cisco Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CSCO) will produce as part of its deal with Clearwire LLC (Nasdaq: CLWR)?

I hope to have more info soon, but here's my initial thoughts about what we could see from the networking giant.

  • A home gateway-cum-WiMax femtocell-type product for the consumer market
  • IP handsets and other devices for the enterprises
  • Campus "bridging" products that will use WiMax as a longer-range link to connect WiFi and other IP-based corporate networks together
This is pure speculation on my part at the moment, but I think I might well be on the money with some of these. What do you think?

re: Cisco WiMax Devices?

Seems like a potential marriage -- lots of Cisco cash on hand, and Cradlepoint makes interesting mobile devices that already link Wi-Fi and WiMax. Probably more instant upside than cheap video cameras, eh?

re: Cisco WiMax Devices? How about dual-mode WiMAX+cellular handsets? Those would be perfect for Clearwire. Here's Cisco's way into the cellular world.
