PHOENIX -- In Q3 2002 the total Router Market slipped 6% to $1.6billion, continuing a trend from the last four quarters. According tolatest research from Synergy Research Group (SRG), all router segments declined sequentially in the quarter with the exception of Branch Office Routers and Mid-Range Routers. Their growth was aided by a stronger recovery in IT Enterprise spending as compared to Service Provider CapEx spending.“As Internet traffic continues to increase and more robust service demands are being placed on IP networks, Service Providers will need to continue investing at the edge and core of their IP networks,” said Susana Vidal, Industry Analyst at Synergy.”This will continue to benefit Avici, CoSine, Cisco, Juniper, Nortel, Redback, and Riverstone.”In the quarter, Cisco gained an additional 4.7 market share points in the Service Provider Core router market and also gained 1.7 market share points in the Service Provider Edge market. Further, Juniper’s acquisition of Unisphere propelled its market share position, providing significant gains in the Broadband Aggregation and IP Edge Router markets, gains of 58.7 and 9.7 market share points, respectively.Cisco Systems Inc.Juniper Networks Inc.Synergy Research Inc.
