Cisco Adds Another Juniper Exec

Cisco Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CSCO) has nabbed another executive out of Juniper Networks Inc. (NYSE: JNPR). David Ward has joined Cisco with the title of service provider chief architect, Light Reading has learned.

Cisco hasn't publicly announced Ward's arrival. He'll be "responsible for defining Cisco's long-term Service Provider strategy, business and technology architectures, and roadmaps for technology innovation," according to a statement Cisco emailed to Light Reading.

That job was formerly done by Kelly Ahuja, the senior vice president of Cisco's Mobile Internet and Technology Group. Ahuja is keeping that title and shoving the "service provider chief architect" part Ward's way.

Ward will report to Pankaj Patel, the senior vice president who's co-leading Cisco's engineering group.

Ward was at Cisco before; he was an architect on IOS XR, the operating system running the CRS-1 core router. At Juniper, he'd been CTO of the platform services division.

He arrives at about the same time as Paul Mankiewich, who had been in CTO roles most recently at Juniper and earlier at Alcatel-Lucent. Mankiewich, whose arrival was announced on Cisco's blog Dec. 7, is now Cisco's CTO of service provider mobility.
