PARIS -- Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) announced today that it has successfully deployed a VPLS solution for Zhenjiang Telecom, a local branch of Jiangsu Telecom, which is the second largest provincial subsidiary of China Telecom. This will enable Zhenjiang Telecom to offer a Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS) solution to deliver high-quality Ethernet services for enterprises. Alcatel believes this is the largest VPLS network in China, with more than 200 customers from the medical, transportation, and retail markets. The project was won through and implemented by Alcatel Shanghai Bell, Alcatel’s flagship Chinese company.

Zhenjiang Telecom is using the Alcatel 7750 Service Router (SR) and Alcatel 5620 Service Aware Manager (SAM) to provide its customers with multipoint connectivity between corporate and subsidiary sites across the Zhenjiang metropolitan area. Enhanced service quality, bandwidth scalability and stability have improved the carrier’s efficiency and reduced its operational costs.
