Company is creating Cable Media Switching Systems, headend equipment enabling broadband cable telephony services

WINDHAM, N.H. -- Cedar Point Communications, a new company combining extensive telephony, data and cable expertise, announced today the development of a PacketCable(TM) based technology designed to revolutionize telephony delivery for cable system operators. The company is creating and commercializing Cable Media Switching Systems, an entirely new category of headend equipment tailored exclusively to the needs of the broadband cable operator to offer primary and non-primary line telephony services. Cable Media Switching combines elements of the PacketCable architecture to provide superior performance and reliability while creating greatly enhanced economics for cable operators. "Until now, no company has created a solution from the ground up for cable operators interested in offering telephony services," said Mark Galvin, co-founder of Cedar Point Communications. "Our Cable Media Switching Systems technology is the first to be created specifically to address the financial and logistical inefficiencies that companies face when they enter the telephony sector."In a separate release:Cedar Point Communications, developer of a PacketCable(TM) based technology designed to revolutionize telephony delivery for cable system operators, announced today a management team and advisory board of executives with high-level telephony, data and cable TV expertise. Dave Spear, formerly senior vice president at Lucent Technologies, will serve as president and CEO of Cedar Point. Spear, who had led the business development group of InterNetworking Systems in the Asian Pacific Region and China where he grew the broadband access market from $10M in 1998 to over $200M in 2000, brings more than 22 years of telecommunications industry experience to his position. George Kassas, a founder of Cedar Point, will serve as vice president, operations and business development. A 15-year veteran of AT&T and Lucent, Kassas previously led the global business operations and e-commerce for the Lucent InterNetworking division, and managed marketing activities of the division in Europe and the Middle East. He increased the Access business in the Middle East from $1M to $40M and also expanded the e-commerce business from $.5M to $16M dollars in two years. Dick Swee brings 30 years of engineering management experience to his position as vice president, engineering. Swee had most recently served as senior vice president of Manchester, NH operations with @Comm Corporation. Prior to that, he had been vice president, engineering with Summa Four, Inc. and director of engineering with Cisco Systems. Jeff Lavin has more than 25 years in the financial and operational management arena, including extensive experience in financial and accounting control systems, merger and acquisition activities and public and private debt and equity financings. He most recently served as chief financial officer, treasurer, clerk and vice president of strategic development for ACT Manufacturing, Inc. and helped transform the regional $300 million technology company into a $2 billion global competitor. Prior to that he was corporate controller for Wyman-Gordon Company, a multi-location international aerospace company with 3,000 employees and $700M annual revenues. The chairman and founder of Cedar Point is Mark Galvin, who was part of two previous start-up successes where he was the founder and CEO. He founded and served as president and CEO of RAScomm, awarded Entrepenuer magazine's "1998 Hot 100" and "1999 Hot 100", which merged with Excel in 1999. Prior to RAScom, Galvin co-founded and served as president and CEO of Primary Rate Incorporated. Primary Rate Incorporated merged with Xircom in 1995.Cedar Point Communications Inc.
