BEDFORD, Mass. and SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- RSA Security Inc. (NASDAQ: RSAS), the most trusted name in e-security®, and Cavium Networks, a cost and performance leader in security processing, today announced an integrated solution that is designed to enable RSA BSAFE SSL-C security software to seamlessly off-load computationally intensive cryptographic operations to Cavium’s NITROX Security Processors. RSA BSAFE encryption software is one of the most widely used e-security solutions in the world, helping organizations lower their cost of development, shorten the time to market with new products and increase revenue with new market opportunities. Cavium’s NITROX security processors are used to accelerate security processing by enterprises and networking OEM vendors.

Cryptographic processing on general-purpose CPUs consumes expensive processing cycles. For example, the cryptographic processing power of an Intel Pentium4 2.4GHz system can be achieved by using a low-end, $30 NITROX security processor. By enabling cryptographic offload, users of RSA BSAFE SSL-C security software can improve the cost/performance ratio of their security applications based on standard computing platforms.

The RSA BSAFE SSL-C software development kit (SDK) provides developers a high-quality, supported product that includes everything needed for delivering SSL-enabled applications. Developers can save time (an estimated 3-6 months) by using SSL-C, the complete solution from the most trusted source in cryptography and security components. Extensive sample code, in-depth documentation and technical support available with SSL-C help ensure fast development without requiring cryptographic expertise

“RSA Security recognizes that using security processors is an efficient way for businesses to increase and extend the return-on-investment on their computing infrastructure,” said Victor Chang, vice president of the Developer Solutions Division at RSA Security. “By partnering with Cavium Networks, RSA Security plans to enable seamless integration of hardware-acceleration for end-users.”

Cavium’s NITROX Security Macro Processors are used by several Motherboard vendors and a number of OEMs in a wide range of networking equipment to accelerate security applications like IPSec VPNs, SSL VPNs, web-servers, load balancers, content switches, application firewalls, wireless gateways and routers. The NITROX Security Macro Processor Family is a line of products that accelerates all aspects of security processing for applications with performance requirements from 50Mbps up to 10Gbps.

“RSA BSAFE software customers now have the option of adding cost-efficient hardware based cryptographic processing to their products,” said Syed Ali, President and CEO of Cavium Networks. “Working with RSA Security, a pioneer and leader in encryption technologies, will facilitate the deployment and broad-based adoption of accelerated security across different applications.”
