11:30 AM -- The SBC and AT&T merger talks are on again, and the timing of the news leak is interesting.

Both The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal appear to have nailed the story at exactly the same time. So it could be that this was a coordinated media leak -- something to test the market's reaction to the possible combination.

The timing is also interesting because it puts AT&T and SBC in the headlines above competitor Verizon, which announced earnings today and, had the deal not been leaked, would have been among the top telecom stories in today's news.

By the way, we'll have stories on the AT&T/SBC talks and the Verizon earnings coming shortly.
