IRVINE, Calif. -- Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM), the leading provider of integrated circuits enabling broadband communications, today announced the Broadcom(R) BCM5841 Multi-Gigabit Security Processor, the industry's most versatile, highest performing 4.8 Gigabit per second (Gbps) IP security (IPSec) processor. The new, advanced IPSec processor delivers security encryption and authentication at multi-Gigabit speeds to eliminate VPN bottlenecks and degradation across the entire network infrastructure. The BCM5841 incorporates full-featured Advanced Encryption Standard(AES) support with 256-bit key processing, patent-pending packet load balancing, and a variety of performance options sustaining throughputs of up to 4.8 Gbps. This enables corporations and service providers to utilize Virtual Private Networks (VPN) economically, while securely expanding their networks across geographic reaches to remote users and branch offices, using the most advanced standards-compliant security protocols at multi-Gigabit speeds. "Optimized system performance in the security space is the most important requirement to our customers as well as to our customers' customers," said Devesh Garg, Senior Director of Broadcom's Security Line of Business. "As the pioneer of Gigabit security processors, Broadcom designed the new BCM5841 to be flexible enough to span multiple applications and address a variety of throughput requirements, making it an ideal complement to our overall technology portfolio."
