Big Ben's Jet Ban

10:15 AM -- Big Ben Verwaayen might have been playing it safe when he made his first public speech as the new CEO of Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU) last week, but behind the scenes it seems he is all action.

Having already (we have heard) shown a few of the Paris HQ staff that he's a "today" man (as in, do this TODAY), Verwaayen (one of our shortlisted candidates for Person of the Year) has also grounded the vendor's three corporate jets (starting at the end of October), insisting instead that staff use commercial airlines (like the hoi polloi). (See The 2008 Leading Lights Finalists.)

Read the details in this Daily Telegraph story.

We like Ben more and more each day, as does the environment.

The question now is: Who was using those AlcaLu corporate jets anyway?
