1:00 PM -- Belgacom SA (Euronext: BELG) is the latest European incumbent carrier to start down the next-generation network (NGN) route, with a plan to get rid of a whole range of legacy services and converge everything onto a single IP/MPLS network.

Belgacom has been talking about its plans here at the Light Reading Ethernet Expo Europe 2007 event in London, and it sounds as if it's adopting an approach very similar to that of its neighbor, KPN Telecom NV (NYSE: KPN), which has already begun its network transformation.
