LOWELL, Mass. -- Avvio Networks again re-affirmed its leadership in the 10Gigabit data transport market with its A1020G-X extended reach OC192 SONET / 10GbEthernet regenerator with FEC encoding.

The A1020G-X's extended reach covers spans up to 200km of SMF-28 fiber without external dispersion compensation. It is available with fixed or widely tunable DWDM interfaces.

"Our customers needed a cost-effective way to upgrade to 10 Gigabits without shutting down and re-tooling their network," said Leo Goyette, founder and CEO, "Because the A1020G-X eliminates the need for expensive dispersion compensation in most networks, our customers can save thousands, if not tens of thousands of dollars when upgrading to 10 Gigabits, without performance disruption."

The A1020G is a 1RU device and is manageable via serial port, Telnet or SNMP. It can be configured as a network edge device or as an in-line regenerator. The A1020G can be used with Avvio Networks' A1040 quad OC-48 to OC-192 multiplexer for a complete OC-48 to OC-192 network upgrade. The A1020G-X is currently in lab trials, with First Customer Ship expected early November.

The A1020 conforms to applicable ITU and Telcordia standards and can be used with equipment from Cisco (Nasdaq: CSCO), Lucent (NYSE: LU), Alcatel (NYSE: ALA), Ciena (Nasdaq: CIEN), Juniper (Nasdaq: JNPR) and others.
