AT&T improves performance measurement capabilities for network-based MPLS VPNs

BASKING RIDGE, N.J. -- AT&T today introduced service enrichments that allow businesses to view, measure and manage the performance of their network-based IP VPN applications just as they can with frame relay and asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) data services. AT&T's new network-performance capabilities, including class of service validation, are available with IP-Enabled Frame Relay (IPFR) service, one of AT&T's network-based IP Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). AT&T also has improved service level agreements (SLAs) for its IPFR, frame relay and ATM services by extending them to the digital service units at customers' sites. These new network-performance tools provide customers such as Pep Boys, the nation's leading automotive aftermarket retail and service chain, extended views of their data networks and added assurance of network availability and performance. The options are available immediately throughout the United States and will be available internationally over the next year. "AT&T is dedicated to providing our customers with an easy evolution path from frame relay and ATM services to network-based IP VPNs," said Dale McHenry, high-speed packet services vice president. "We now offer our customers the tools to verify that our IPFR and IPATM services provide the same enterprise-grade performance they have come to expect from their traditional frame relay and ATM services."
