After the merger, AT&T Broadband and Comcast will lay off 1,700 people from the company's headquarters

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. and PHILADELPHIA -- AT&T Broadband and Comcast Corporation today announced that about 1,700 AT&T Broadband positions at the company’s headquarters are expected to be eliminated following a transition period at the completion of their planned merger. Impacted positions will be primarily executive and management roles. The companies also announced that about 4,000 – or about 70 percent of – AT&T Broadband jobs currently located in Colorado will remain in the state post-merger.The two companies today began formally notifying an initial group of approximately 675 AT&T Broadband employees that their positions will be eliminated when the merger closes. The balance of the expected layoffs at AT&T Broadband headquarters will take place during the post-merger transition period. All impacted employees will be given severance, extended benefit coverage and outplacement support. AT&T Broadband’s 2,000 Denver field employees, responsible for customer service and local cable operations, are unaffected by this announcement. Also unaffected are three major AT&T Broadband facilities in the Denver area – AT&T’s Digital Media Centers, the company’s Network Operations Center and a customer care center. As previously announced, the newly formed Mountain Division will serve 3.3 million subscribers in the Dallas, Denver, Seattle, Portland, Salt Lake City, Arizona and New Mexico markets, will be headquartered in Denver and will represent a major hub of operations for the combined company.
