AT&T & Verizon End Map Scrap
AT&T dismissed its lawsuit against Verizon Wireless and its recent "There's a Map for That" campaign. Verizon also dropped its counter-suit against AT&T.
"Verizon and AT&T have dismissed the litigation between them in Georgia and New York," was the plain statement from an AT&T spokeswoman on the new developments. Verizon Wireless pointed out the dismissal papers but made no further comment.
The carrier sniping started after Verizon started running an ad that suggested that it offered better 3G coverage than its major rival. AT&T has lately countered with its own map ad, featuring Luke Wilson.
AT&T started the map scrap at the beginning of November. Verizon fired back with a counter-suit, claiming the "truth hurts." On November 22nd, AT&T was denied the temporary restraining order that it wanted against the Verizon ads.
Dismissals aside, Verizon Wireless isn't going to stop tweaking AT&T's nose about 3G coverage. Moments after alerting Unstrung to the dismissals, Verizon Wireless sent through a video link for its latest holiday-themed coverage ad:
