DULUTH, Ga. -- ARRIS (Nasdaq ARRS) today announced a trio of recent Cadant® C4™ CMTS and Touchstone™ Telephony Port sales to regional utility companies offering voice and data to their residential and business customers.

Frankfort Plant Board, a 60-year old municipal utility passing over 20,000 customers in Frankfort and Franklin counties, KY, selected the ARRIS Cadant C4 CMTS and Touchstone Telephony Ports to enable the provision of both VoIP cable telephony and high speed data. Additionally, the Frankfort Plant Board has selected the Alopa MetaServ™ provisioning system in conjunction with the sale.

Frankfort Plant Board already offers video service, circuit switched voice (off its fiber network) and some high speed data, but, as Ed Hancock, Frankfort’s Assistant Superintendent for Telecommunications notes, there are limitations: “You can’t run fiber to every home, so we decided to invest in the Cadant C4 CMTS and Touchstone products to launch VoIP by the end of August. Working with our DMS-500 switch, the Cadant C4 CMTS serves as the interface to provide carrier-grade telephony over our existing plant as well as being able to handle our rapidly growing cable modem service. The Touchstone Telephony Ports make the local loop possible and give us the flexibility of using either an external or internal unit at the home.”

ARRIS today also announced that Margaretville Telephone Company, an 87-year old telephone company that entered the cable business in 1996 via its cable subsidiary MTC Cable, has purchased a fully-loaded Cadant C4 CMTS. MTC Cable serves about 1600 homes in several communities in the Catskill Mountains of New York. The company purchased the Cadant C4 CMTS to replace legacy equipment in offering its customers tiered high-speed data service.

The third company choosing ARRIS voice products is Murray Electric, a municipal utility serving communities in Murray, KY, and a member of the TVA Electric Coop. Murray is deploying Touchstone Telephony Ports throughout its system and at nearby Murray State University to replace legacy MTAs in the provision of VoIP.
