Apple Reports Q1 Revenue of $46B

Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) reported a gain of $13.06 billion for the first quarter thanks to record sales of its latest iPhone. The company shipped 37 million smartphones, including the 4S, and 15.4 million iPads during the quarter.

Apple earned $13.87 per share on revenues of $46.33 billion in the fourth quarter, Tim Cook's first full quarter as CEO. A year earlier it reported a profit of $6 billion or $6.43 a share on revenues of $26.74 billion.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected a profit of $10.07 a share on sales of $38.76 billion.

Shares of Apple are up $1.79 (.43%) to $422.20 in after-market trading.
