BASINGSTOKE, U.K. -- Fibernet Group plc, the communications solutions company, today announced that it has won the contract to provide a comprehensive end-to-end network solution for Alexander Forbes, one of the world's largest global insurance brokers. Fibernet will install a national Multi-protocol Label Switching (MPLS) IP virtual private network (VPN), providing the company with a secure, scalable and resilient platform upon which it can deliver its converged services. The new wide area network will initially connect remote sites, via Fibernet's MPLS core, to Alexander Forbes new headquarters in London. The main data centre is connected via dual 10Mbps Ethernet LAN extension (or LES) services, diversely routed via Fibernet's Ethernet over SDH service. Initially, upwards of twenty-one sites will be rolled out across the UK and Ireland via Fibernet's national backbone, providing Alexander Forbes with a complete managed IP VPN network. Several of these sites have their last mile connectivity provided by Fibernet's TANet Access symmetric DSL (SDSL) service, which provides a functional replacement for traditional leased lines. The WAN infrastructure will provide true any to any connectivity, enabling effective utilisation of bandwidth and providing a common transport for all applications. It also vitally allows for the provision of the quality of service controls necessary to enable interactive rich content services to be delivered. The IP VPN will allow for the integration of voice, video and data across all sites. Commenting on the contract, Charles McGregor, Chief Executive of Fibernet said, "With increasing customer acceptance of IP telephony and IP-based videoconferencing we are seeing rapid growth in the number of customers requiring fully resilient, any-to-any networks. These MPLS based networks bring many benefits, not least of which are the reduction of service delivery timescales, administration costs, and improved service availability. Fibernet's bespoke solutions are far superior in terms of price, performance and flexibility to conventional tariff based offerings, and provide a precise match to individual customer needs. This is due to our unique ability to select from a range of different technologies to create the best fit for our customer's requirements. We are delighted to help Alexander Forbes enjoy the considerable cost savings that a bespoke MPLS based service can provide." Fibernet Group plc
