Alcatel will supply an intelligent, multi-service optical network with DWDM and SDH systems for Italian operator Wind

MILAN and PARIS -- Wind, the first Italian operator able to offer a global convergence among mobile, fixed lines and the Internet, has selected Alcatel, world leader in intelligent optical networking, to considerably heighten its capability to deliver new high-speed broadband services under a multi-million Euro contract for optical transmission solutions. This two-year frame agreement includes the supply and installation of Alcatel's state-of-the-art DWDM systems (1) as well as of the new-generation SDH solutions (2) - on fiber and microwave radio - to expand WIND's existing national backbone and for its new international network build-out.The equipment provided on a turn-key basis is part of the Optinex family - Alcatel's breed of leading-edge transmission systems.
