Alcatel Next for Series 60?

It's Friday, and it's been a sort of Series 60 week, what with Nokia Corp. (NYSE: NOK) going ape on Monday with a device launchfest and then Sendo Ltd. going ape in its own small way by sticking two fingers up to one of its investors, the mighty Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) (see NTT Finishes MPLS Network and Sendo Dumps MS for Nokia).

So we thought, why not end the week with a little nugget about the next handset company likely to license the Nokia platform that runs on the Symbian Ltd. operating system. If you're at all interested, it's very likely to be Alcatel SA (NYSE: ALA; Paris: CGEP:PA) -- and yes, it is still in the handset business. Don't be so cheeky! It's not as if Alcatel is a market leader -- it doesn't figure in the top five vendors (see Nokia Extends Handset Share) -- but if Nokia is excited about having relative newcomer Sendo on board, imagine the fuss when Alcatel signs up!
