Etienne Fouques has been named President of Alcatel's Carrier Networking Group

PARIS -- Alcatel (Paris : CGEP.PA and NYSE : ALA)today announces that Etienne Fouques has been named President ofAlcatel's Carrier Networking Group. He will also become a member ofAlcatel's Executive Commitee. Etienne Fouques was previously head of theswitching and routing activities of Alcatel. This position was formerly held by Pearse Flynn, who joined Alcatelthrough the acquisition of Newbridge in May 2000. After overseeing thesuccessful integration of Newbridge, Pearse Flynn is leaving Alcatel to pursueother opportunities.

Etienne Fouques will oversee the carrier networking activities ofAlcatel, which include wireline and wireless access, circuit and packetcore networks for voice and data and cellular infrastructures. Etienne Fouques was until now President of the Switching andRouting Division of Alcatel. Prior to that position, Etienne Fouques wasGeneral Manager of Alcatel's Mobile Communications Division. From 1990 to 1994,he was director of customer services at Alcatel CIT, covering Frenchand International markets for switching and transmission products. From 1980to 1990, he was in charge of export operations for Thomson telephony andthen Alcatel CIT. He joined Alcatel in 1972.
