PARIS -- Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) today announced it successfully demonstrated interoperability of its Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) implementation on the Alcatel 7420 ESR with an array of multi-vendor core and edge routers at George Mason University's Advanced Internet Lab last week. The tests validate the interoperability of Alcatel's 7420 ESR MPLS offering, which enables carriers to use MPLS traffic engineering and Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) to roll out revenue generating, differentiated IP services.

"Achieving full MPLS interoperability marks a key milestone in the aggressive roll-out of Alcatel's edge services router," said Barry Denroche, vice president and general manager for Alcatel's Edge Data activities. "MPLS is critical to our customers and helps to ensure they'll remain competitive in today's marketplace. We applaud the efforts of George Mason University in providing a forum to test our implementations."
