AlcaLu's Giere Gone From CMO Post
"Tim Krause will become Alcatel-Lucent Chief Marketing Officer as of Monday June 16, replacing John Giere, whose new position will be announced shortly," writes an Alcatel-Lucent spokesman in an email to Light Reading. "Tim will report to Etienne Fouques. This change is part of an ongoing effort in Alcatel-Lucent to simplify and streamline work."
Krause, who currently leads a simplified, streamlined life in Plano, Texas, will assume of all Giere's direct reports.
In one of his final public appearances as CMO, Giere was featured in this LRTV custom video earlier this year. He's the one who's not squinting a lot:
But the marketing shakeup at AlcaLu doesn't stop there, from what we can tell. John Marinho, who held the title of VP of Corporate Strategic Marketing and Global Government & Public Affairs, now seems to have been nipped of his strategic marketing-ness.
"John Marinho will be head of the Americas Global Government and Public Affairs team," the AlcaLu spokesman writes. "He'll report to Cindy Christy, President of the Americas."
The Americas, by the way, consists of North America and the Caribbean and South America, as defined by AlcaLu. If it were up to us here at Light Reading, we'd leave out Oklahoma, but that's not terribly relevant for this story.
"The whole former Lucent marketing organization is kaput," says a former AlcaLu employee, who wishes to remain outside of New Jersey.
The company is set to announce more on Giere's fate in the next few days. But, in the meantime, if you're finding all these staff changes hard to track, keep in mind you can find our complete list of Alcatel-Lucent stories, newswires, and reports, anytime, by clicking here.

In any regard, people at that position within companies the size of ALU got there by virtue of having outsized egos. Not as a result (in this case) of marketing prowess.
