Agilent Unveils Tester

PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today introduced the first component of a new modular optical amplifier test platform. The new platform, developed in conjunction with Instrumentation Engineering Inc. (I.E.), will provide developers, manufacturers and integrators of optical amplifiers (Raman, EDFA/TDFA/PDFA, SOA and EDWAs) with a low-cost entry test solution. Customers can protect their original investment by easily upgrading the modular platform to meet additional test requirements and to accommodate emerging technologies. Thus far, the solution consists of a fundamental instrumentation kit, a DWDM sources kit and a single channel kit, and offers both ISS or TDE methods. In addition, Agilent and I.E. are already creating enhancement kits that will expand the solution to address the more advanced parameters required by future network layouts and transmission technologies. "Technologies are rapidly emerging, and with them, new and challenging test requirements," said Werner Berkel, vice president and general manager of Agilent's Optical Communication Measurement Division. "This means that both new entrants and established players in the optical amplifier business must be able to adapt test setups at a low cost and with the highest reliability. Agilent's optical amplifier test solution offers an expanding spectrum of options that can be tailored to a company's specific needs and that meet customer demand for low cost, high performance and flexibility."
