Agilent Aims for Faster Installation

PALO ALTO, Calif. -- As part of its increasing focus on the installation and maintenance market, Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today announced a new and improved version of its Mini-OTDR, a key optical network test solution for fast installation, commissioning and maintenance of fiber networks.

Agilent's E6000C Mini-OTDR, together with the new release of the E6091A OTDR Toolkit II plus companion software, reduces the time required for installation and commissioning of high-count fiber cables and the location of network faults for fiber maintenance. In particular, the time needed for file management has been significantly reduced, an important factor considering the volume of records and time spent on data storage and transfer. The new releases add features to reduce training time and help new users become proficient faster, including online guidance, a user-definable expertise level, and context-sensitive online help.

"Improvements to this version of our market-leading portable device are a direct result of our customers' feedback," said Frank A. Maier, operations manager of Agilent's Optical Network Test Division. "Thanks to features such as the new user interface and the OTDR Assistant, new users can learn and use the features quickly, thus greatly saving training time. We have focused on producing the right tools for technicians, as evidenced by the light weight, small footprint, advanced features and optimized ease-of-use of our Mini-OTDR."
