MARTINSRIED/MUNICH, Germany and MAHWAH, N.J. -- ADVA Optical Networking (FSE: ADV), a leading globalprovider of optical networking solutions, today launched a new Slimlinechassis version of its Fiber Service Platform (FSP) 3000 product.Targeted at transporting a limited number of high-bandwidthapplications from customer premise sites to metro network infrastructure,ADVA’s FSP 3000 Slimline significantly lowers capitalexpenditure (CAPEX) and operating expenditure (OPEX) costs for carrierand enterprise customers. Lower CAPEX investments are achieved byreducing the equipment quantity and size deployed at customer premiseand access sites. OPEX savings result from less equipment space andpower consumption, and platform consistency with ADVA’s standardFSP 3000 eliminates the need for training and additional spares. The new FSP 3000 Slimline chassis measures a compact 19-inch widthand 3 rack units in height, and holds up to 2, instead of the usual 8,channel cards. All standard FSP 3000 channel cards meet thespecifications of the Slimline chassis slots and are interchangeable, requiring no special line cards to be purchased for the smaller chassissize. The FSP 3000 Slimline is fully compatible and interoperable withADVA’s standard FSP 3000 platform and network managementintegration is seamless. Designed for high-speed, point-to-point orfeeder connections between customer premise sites and metro rings, the FSP 3000 Slimline chassis provides an optimum solution for GigabitEthernet, Fibre Channel, or any application between 100Mbit/s and10Gbit/s. The Slimline supports distances up to 80 kilometers withoutregeneration, and integrated Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFAs)and regenerators enable transport up to 500 kilometers.“The FSP 3000 Slimline combines low CAPEX investment with OPEXsavings to make this a unique product in the market today, and an idealhigh-speed feeder solution for carriers and enterprises,” stated Brian P.McCann, Chief Marketing & Strategy Officer at ADVA Optical Networking.“We have already won our first large project in Europe for metronetwork infrastructure, which interconnects numerous customer premisesites with single and dual channels of 10Gbit/s traffic.”The FSP 3000 is ADVA’s carrier-class infrastructure solution for metroaccess, core, and regional networks. Targeted toward carriers andservice providers, the parallel use of Dense Wavelength DivisionMultiplexing (DWDM) and Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) technologyenables all protocols between 8Mbit/s and 10Gbit/s and up to 256applications to be transported over one single fiber pair. The FSP 3000design supports point-to-point, linear add/drop, ring, and meshednetwork topologies with up to ten nodes across distances up to 500kilometers without regeneration. The new FSP 3000 Slimline chassis will be released for generalavailability in volume shipment in early March 2003.In a separate release:ADVA Optical Networking (FSE: ADV), a leading globalprovider of optical networking solutions, today announced that pan-European carrier’s carrier LambdaNet Communications has deployedADVA’s Fiber Service Platform (FSP) products in metro core networkinfrastructure in five German cities. The FSP 2000 and 3000 aremarketed and sold to LambdaNet under the Siemens WaveLine label bySiemens IC Networks. LambdaNet marks another important customerwin as the ADVA and Siemens partnership continues to gain momentumin the European market.LambdaNet today operates an optical transmission- and IP-networkthroughout Europe, which currently measures 22,000 kilometers andconnects more than 100 cities in eleven countries. During the latter halfof 2002, the carrier’s carrier installed approximately 40 STM-4 andSTM-16 links in point-to-point and linear add/drop configurations in fiveGerman cities. Utilizing Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM)technology, this metro network infrastructure has enabled LambdaNetto deploy important new services for its carrier and enterprisecustomers. Additional deployments are targeted for other Europeancities over the next several years.“Together with our partner Siemens, ADVA continues to demonstrate itsleadership position in the European market for metro optical networkingsolutions,” stated Jürgen Hansjosten, Chief Sales Officer at ADVA OpticalNetworking. “Despite the ongoing weak carrier spending environment,we are seeing positive signs as an increasing number of Europeancarriers selectively deploy metro core and regional networkinfrastructure to address fiber relief concerns and leverage opticaltechnologies to deploy new services.”ADVA AG Optical Networking LambdaNet Communications GmbH
