HONG KONG -- Acterna, the largest provider of test and management solutions to telecommunications network operators, today announced the next generation of its FIREBERD family of testers, the Acterna FIREBERD 8000 (FB-8000). Combining the success of two highly successful test platforms - the Acterna FIREBERD 6000A and the Acterna TestPad - the FB-8000 is designed to meet the needs of users installing and maintaining datacom circuits and network elements. The FB-8000 is also the only tester on the market that meets the United States military's performance specifications (MILSTD) MIL-188C and MIL-188-114.

To meet the evolving needs of customers - particularly tech control groups, tactical communications units, and large integrators, Acterna introduced the FB-8000 which enables efficient and thorough installation and maintenance of datacom circuits and other network elements that provide both secure and non-secure voice and data. Datacom is the standard by which data is transferred (electrically and mechanically) between data terminating equipment (DTE) and data communications equipment (DCE).

The FB-8000 is an ideal test solution for the United States government and network equipment manufacturers, due to the vast installed base of its predecessor, the FB-6000, and a compatible installed base of the Acterna FST-2310. This compatibility with thousands of testers already deployed reduces procurement costs and further accelerates network deployment The FB-8000 is also the industry's only tester that combines the abilities of conditioned diphase testing, clocking up to 18Mbps, and DTE and DCE emulation on native datacom interfaces.

"For military and government customers, guaranteeing error-free operation and reliability before placing information on their circuits is vital," said Jim Coulter, director of Acterna's government programs. "Reliable communications for both voice and data is a linchpin of network-centric warfare and the FIREBERD 8000 helps ensure the error-free performance of government communications networks."
