Acronym Olympics
If you don't know what I'm talking about, good for you.
A couple weeks back, Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) unfurled SOIP as an acronym for "Services Over IP," which was part of their big SDP (Service Delivery Platform) push (see Microsoft Preps for Telco Battle). They've since discovered that's a bad idea, since most folks in the storage networking business think of SOIP as "Storage Over IP."
So Microsoft and AT&T, who are partners on SDP development, are now going with XOIP, as in, "X (anything) over IP."
Now excuse me, while I get back to my XOIPing.
