QUEBEC CITY -- TeraXion Inc., a technology leader in performance-defining OEM products for the generation and conditioning of light signals in mission-critical applications of Telecom, Defense & Aerospace and Industrial markets, today announced that it has shipped more than 2000 tunable chromatic dispersion compensation modules to date, establishing it as the overall worldwide market leader in this rapidly growing segment of 40 Gb/s systems.

The move towards higher line rates and greater reconfigurability in the network are driving the requirements for more flexible dispersion management solutions. The ClearSpectrum™-TDC and TDCM enable 40 Gb/s transmission links by managing residual chromatic dispersion at DWDM terminals. The TDC is a fully integrated optical module powered by TeraXion’s established and patented multi-channel fiber Bragg grating technology. This component provides large dispersion tuning range, wide bandwidth and low PMD to support any 40 and 100 Gb/s modulation formats such as duobinary, DPSK and DQPSK.

40 Gb/s deployments will speed up in the coming years with a huge increase of data traffic driven by new services such as triple-play, video contents, IPTV, files sharing, etc. Recent announcements of important deployments of 40 Gb/s systems by major carriers in the USA such as AT&T and Verizon are strong drivers for the demand of tunable chromatic dispersion compensators. Research firm CIR forecasts that the market for tunable dispersion compensators will reach a total value of $245 million by 2012 with compound annual growth of 100 percent over that 5 years period. "The year 2007 has clearly seen an explosion in the demand of our tunable dispersion compensators with an increase of more than 200% in terms of number of units shipped year-over-year as of today. This year has also seen the shipment of our 2000th tunable dispersion compensator for 40 Gb/s application and we are presently increasing capacity to fulfill actual and future customers’ orders in this strongly growing market segment" said Martin Guy, Vice-President Product Management and Technology at TeraXion.
