Rumor: Verizon's Got Another 100G
This would mark the world's second deployment of a 100-Gbit/s long-haul link. Verizon laid claim to the first in December, when it upgraded Nortel Networks Ltd. equipment to put 100 Gbit/s on a Paris-to-Frankfurt span. (See Verizon Switches On 100G in Europe.)
Of course, Nortel's OME 6500 and its 100-Gbit/s technology are now in the hands of Ciena Corp. (NYSE: CIEN). (See Ciena/Nortel Product Plans Revealed.)
OFC/NFOEC post-deadline submissions were due March 10. Authors of the accepted papers were to be notified by today, and their papers will be presented on Thursday.
