Ericsson launches smallest 3.6-Mbit/s HSDPA/EDGE mobile platforms

STOCKHOLM -- Ericsson Mobile Platforms has successfully started deliveries of the U350and U360 platforms, the smallest and most powerful HSDPA/EDGE platformsreleased for true mass-market deployment.

"The U350 and U360 platforms are the smallest and most powerful 3.6 MbpsHSDPA solutions on the market today," says Jörgen Lantto, vice president andhead of Strategic Product Management at Ericsson Mobile Platforms. "With oursolution, handset manufacturers will be able to integrate HSDPA capabilitiesin mass-market mobile phones."

The U350 and U360 are designed to facilitate true mass-market HSDPA volumeswith a strong focus on size, cost and performance. The U350 is a quad-bandEDGE and single-band HSDPA platform, whereas the U360 adds triple-band HSDPAcapabilities.

Ericsson's (NASDAQ:ERICY) U350 and U360 platforms provide mobile handsetmanufacturers with a complete, verified system solution. The platforms offera compact HSDPA solution with a range of high-performance multimediafeatures, such as QVGA display, 3D graphics and high-quality musiccapabilities.

Having sampled U350 and U360, Ericsson Mobile Platforms is now deliveringreference designs to customers.

Lantto says: "Handset manufacturers using our existing solutions will beable to reuse existing application software and will be able to quicklyintegrate the HSDPA-enabled platforms into phones. We expect the firstcommercial phones using these platforms to be launched in early 2007."
