Juniper Enables Cloud-Enabled Branch

Juniper Networks on Tuesday introduced a Cloud-Enabled Branch suite, including CPE hardware and services to help connect enterprise branch offices to cloud services and applications.

The Cloud-Enabled Branch suite is part of a strategy launched last year that also incorporates campus and data center products and services. Branch offices present unique problems, with new requirements to connect to cloud services, but not a lot of IT staffing on location, Scott Miles, senior director of cloud enterprise portfolio marketing, tells Light Reading. The suite allows enterprises to manage services centrally, and push updates to the device at the branch without requiring a truck roll.

"The cloud is driving more traffic off network," Miles says. "It's driving applications to different locations and the access is different. This gives enterprises the ability to deliver whatever services they need dynamically and connect with cloud-based systems."

On the hardware side, the NFX250 CPE appliance and services include SD-WAN connectivity, security, network automation and zero-touch provisioning on an open platform. These same services can also be delivered on the SRX300 desktop device for branch offices.

For software, suite includes Contrail service automation, third-party services and applications such as Ruckus Virtual Smartzone Controller for WLAN and Silver Peak CPX virtual appliance for WAN optimization.

Juniper sees the customers as primarily retail, particularly restaurant chains. In addition to providing SD-WAN connectivity, the servers can also run native enterprise apps, such as point-of-sale.

SD-WAN is a crowded marketplace, with vendors including Cisco Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CSCO), Viptela , Versa Networks and Citrix Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CTXS) competing.
