Telstra Adds Software, Cloud Smarts With Readify Buy

Telstra has added to its cloud, IoT, analytics and integration capabilities with the acquisition of Australian applications development and IT services specialist Readify Ltd. for an undisclosed sum.

Readify, which employs about 200 staff (of which about 160 are software developers), will "provide an additional platform for Telstra to drive digital transformation for its enterprise customers in domestic and global markets," noted Telstra Corp. Ltd. (ASX: TLS; NZK: TLS) in an official announcement.

The move complements Telstra's acquisition earlier this year of Kloud, which offers managed cloud migration services in Australia and elsewhere in the Asia-Pacific region, and last year's acquisition of Pacnet, which gave Telstra a regional network, enterprise customers and a seat at the top table of service provider SDN specialists. "Readify will provide application development and data analytics services, nicely complementing Kloud's existing services," noted Michelle Bendschneider, Telstra's executive director, global enterprise and services, in a prepared statement. "It will enable Telstra to add incremental value to customers in enterprise cloud applications, API-based customisation and extensions as well as business technology advisory services," she added.

The Readify deal comes on the heels of Telstra's sale of a 47.4% stake in Autohome, a Chinese auto information website, for US$1.6 billion (A$2.1 billion). The Australian telco first invested in Autohome in 2008 when it acquired a 55% stake for just A$76 million ($57 million).
