Emergia Lights Transamerican Network

MONTEVIDEO, Uraguay -- Emergia Holding N.V, a provider of broadband infrastructure services developing the largest and most extensive high capacity fiber optic system in Latin America, announced today it has completed building its fiber optic ring around Latin America and into the United States. Upon completion, Emergia becomes the first company in Latin America to finish a high capacity, undersea, fiber optic cable network, placing the company at least two months ahead of its direct competitors, according to company officials. The network covers approximately 25,000 kilometers (about 16,000 miles) -- the largest in Latin America -- and offers an initial capacity of 40 Gigabits per second (expandable to 1.92 Terabits per second).

"Until now, the communications infrastructure within the Latin American region was not equipped to address the forecasted growth and current broadband demand," said Emergia CEO Eduardo Caride. "The completion of our network, which comes in advance of our originally planned deadline, is a credit to our management team and suppliers. Emergia is now positioned as a pioneer in advanced infrastructures in the Americas and ideally placed to capitalize on the growing demand for broadband capacity."
