TAMPA, Fla. -- Switch and Data (NASDAQ: SDXC), a leading provider of Internet exchange and colocation services, today announced that content delivery network provider EdgeCast Networks has chosen to speed the delivery of its customers’ digital media content to end users by expanding into Switch and Data’s facilities in Atlanta, Dallas and Seattle. EdgeCast provides high-performance global distribution for large streaming and downloadable media files by storing and serving its customers’ content in 12 strategic global locations near primary Internet Exchange points.

"Our media and entertainment customers have high standards for the quality of a user's rich media experience," said Phil Goldsmith, COO and SVP sales, EdgeCast Networks. "Switch and Data's broad footprint, flexibility, capacity, and hands-on support have helped us deliver above and beyond our customers' expectations."

EdgeCast expanded its network to facilitate direct optical interconnections with content provider customers and prospects located in Switch and Data’s sites. Switch and Data also provides EdgeCast with access to a high density of networks and bandwidth providers to distribute large content files to its customers’ end users. Switch and Data’s broad footprint of 33 data centers in 23 markets provides EdgeCast with storage and distribution in locations not served by other national providers. This storage and distribution of large digital media files near end users is a key component of EdgeCast’s competitive strategy.

“Switch and Data’s broad footprint of data centers and network-neutral business model are uniquely suited to serve companies that speed the distribution of today’s large music and video files to end users,” said Ernie Sampera, Sr. VP of Marketing of Switch and Data. “Our facilities will help EdgeCast expand by landing equipment once and then expanding connectivity with Switch and Data’s customers, including content providers and broadband networks, as its business takes off.”
