DUBLIN -- Eblana Photonics today announced a new product line of TOSA (Transmitter Optical Sub-Assembly) laser sources for use in optical fiber communication applications, such as Gigabit Ethernet and Fibre Channel.

The new TOSA offering complements Eblana’s existing TO-Can laser diode products by providing transceiver manufacturers with a ready to use package solution built on Eblana’s superior laser technology. The TOSA package is initially being made available in 1310nm and 1550nm Fabry Perot versions with Discrete Mode (single wavelength) versions to follow.

“The Eblana Photonics TOSA product series responds to demands from our customers for their Eblana laser of choice to be made available in a package format which directly fits their application and eliminates the need for further internal or external sub-assembly processing.” said Chris Herbert, Eblana’s head of device packaging. Mr Daniel Tine, business development manager for Eblana Photonics in North America added “This approach simplifies our customers’ component qualification and purchasing logistics by reducing their vendor and subcontractor bases thereby providing for greater efficiencies in terms of their total supply chain costs. Furthermore, it means that their design engineers can focus on the transceiver design in the knowledge that the critical TOSA component will be delivered with the performance and quality standards they have come to expect from Eblana laser products.”
