E-Musement

4:20 PM -- A most interesting note from Alexander Muse, a self-described "entrepreneur and part-time venture capitalist," who sent a note to his email list to say that email lists are dead:

"There is no need to unsubscribe this this email list (this is the last time I will ever use it). Email mailing lists are dead! I have been blogging for a while and I believe that blogs are a far better way to reach out than email based newsletters. My belief is so strong that I have invested in a blog consultancy called Weblogs Work. So if you are interested in keeping up with me just visit my blog or subscribe to my RSS feed.

Grammar, punctuation, and copy editing are also deceased, according to Mr. Muse's writing. Another note of interest, I never subscribed to Muse's email list in the first place. Perhaps I can get him to fax me a few old entries so I can see what I missed.

re: E-Musement I am sure you talk to lots of folks in your career as a self described 'part-time editor' and did not remember the various conversations and interviews we conducted when I was CEO of LayerOne.

The neat thing about Microsoft's Listbuilder product is that it provides evidence that you signed up for my mailing list back in 2001. Additionally, it also shows that you have received several newsletters in the past from me.

Again, if someone asked me if I knew Phil Harvey I would not likely remember our conversations off hand, but I would not write an article claiming I had NEVER talked to you.

Finally, we happen to have quite a few friends in common (I suspect that is how you got my name for the various interviews you conducted with me). Bad form... Not nice...

Oh, that Alex Muse!

In fact, I did sign up your LayerOne list. And, yes, I do remember covering LayerOne and probably should pay them a visit and see what they're up to these days.

Thing is, I didn't make the connection between that old LayerOne list and the "Weblogs" thing you were talking about in your latest mailing.

I didn't write an article claiming that I never talked to you. I made fun of your email list. And our common friends know I pick on venture capitalists and publicists without hesitation. Even the ones that are nothing but nice to me. It's a character flaw.

re: "Bad form... Not nice..."

If that's referring to my posture, point taken. I'm such a slouch.
