Comment (3)LAS VEGAS -- CES 2015 -- I'd be remiss if I didn't alert you to the cutest drone phenomenon I've seen at the orgy of consumer excess here in the home of Glitter Gulch.
A British company called Torquing Group Ltd. has created what it calls the ZANO "selfie" drone. The development has been funded by a Kickstarter drive that raised more than £2.3 million (US$3.5 million).
You can get an idea of the scale of the tiny drone below:
"A plethora of sensors work seamlessly together to allow ZANO to avoid obstacles, hold its position and know exactly where it is in conjunction with your smart device, at all times," the company says.
It has a 5-megapixel camera on board and can be controlled by a tilt of your iOS or Android device. If the battery gets too low or it gets too far out of range, it heads back to the device.
The company is selling the ZANO as something that can fly above your head and take cool "selfies" of your activities. By the way, if you don't take the selfie, is it really a selfie? Or would this be a "dronie"?
Obviously, a smart and small drone photography platform could have more applications than that, though. Can you think of any, readers?
