Disney Goes to Japan

4:50 PM -- Disney apparently thinks it can succeed in Japan where it failed in America. The entertainment giant has reportedly inked yet another mobile virtual network operator deal, but this time with SoftBank Mobile Corp. , the third largest mobile operator in Japan.

The move comes soon after Disney shut up its mobile venture in the U.S. American MVNOs have mostly been having a rough time recently with SK Telecom (Nasdaq: SKM) effectively taking control of the Helio Inc. last week and Amp'd closing down. (See Mobile Mouse Shut Down.)

Disney is evidently banking on the proven mobile mania of the Japanese alongside the clout of worldwide brand for this new venture. You'll be surprised to learn that Disney will provide "animated content" for the mobile devices.
