PETALUMA, Calif. -- Dilithium, the global leader in high-quality multimedia delivery over mobile and broadband networks, announced the availability of its DCA Video Optimizer™, a Network Traffic Optimizer application for live video and Video on Demand (VoD) streaming utilizing the Dilithium Content Adapter (DCA).

The DCA Video Optimizer is a unique product that can adapt video content for live and VoD delivery to the widest range of devices, including PCs, set-top boxes, and mobile handsets such as Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson, Blackberry and the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch. The DCA Video Optimizer infrastructure solution can be deployed by operators and service providers enabling traffic shaping of video streaming or progressive download based on network congestion, time of day, and differentiated services. The adaptation process allows it to work transparently with native browsers or streaming players on all devices.

Video traffic over mobile networks has reached record levels and operators are looking for solutions to support increased service adoption while minimizing costly network expansion. Operators are also looking to offer differentiated services where customers can choose the level of subscription or the quality of their pay-per-view without requiring the additional processing and storage burden of maintaining multiple formats of each content asset.

The DCA Video Optimizer provides a solution that can gracefully reduce the bandwidth required to deliver video to devices. The DCA patented on-the-fly transcoding and transrating capabilities allow it to exploit and adjust to handset capabilities. Bandwidth reduction is achieved without compromising perceived video quality. This results in a faster browsing experience over broadband and mobile/wireless networks. A simple bitrate adaptation can increase the number of users served by 100%, saving millions of dollars in network expansion.
