Digital Media VC Declines

4:00 PM -- Today on Contentinople:

  • Digital media venture investments declined 20 percent during the month of April, according to research firm Rutberg & Co. And it's not just the amount raised that's declined either -- the number and size of deals in the digital media industry are shrinking too. While March saw 39 deals with an average size of $8.1 million, April saw 10 fewer deals, with an average size of $7.3 million.

  • Napster has cut prices for its online subscription service, now charging $5 monthly for unlimited song streaming and five MP3 downloads. This is a sharp drop from what Napster previously charged: $12.95 monthly for unlimited song streaming and zero MP3 downloads.

And in today's News Bits, DJ Danger Mouse is defying record label EMI by selling his album... as a blank, recordable CD with cover art.
