DigiLens Unveils Low-Power VOAs

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- DigiLens, Inc., will unveil its new range of low-power, multi-channel variable optical attenuators (VOAs) at the Optical Fiber Communication Conference March 19-21, 2001 in Anaheim, California. The optical components offer exceptionally low power consumption, low heat dissipation and high dynamic range, making them ideal for integration into optical network systems. Applications include dynamic channel balancing in DWDM systems, dynamic channel leveling in optical add/drop multiplexing and receiver overload control.

DigiLens’ multi-channel VOAs provide reliable and stable electronic control of attenuation across the C, S or L band and allow dynamic power management fast enough to respond to any optical switching disturbance or variation in the Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA) gain profile. In addition, the VOAs feature low insertion loss and low polarization dependent loss. The components are currently being tested to comply with Telcordia 1209 and 1221 requirements.

“Our new VOA family provides an efficient and versatile solution for DWDM system integrators,” said Jonathan Waldern, president and CEO of DigiLens. “Two component types are offered based on our unique active polymer technology, which relies on the electro-optic rather than thermo-optic effect, consuming less power and generating almost zero heat.”
