Delivering 10G Services with Zyxel's Wi-Fi 6E

Premium broadband services delivering multi-gigabit speeds should be offered with wireless gateways that support up to 10 Gbit/s bandwidths in the home or business to ensure the best user experience. Remote provisioning and management of CPE equipment is also important to minimize service provider operating costs. Wi-Fi 6E gateways with a 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GE) WAN port and tri-band Wi-Fi can deliver on these requirements and enable service providers to offer complete multi-gigabit Internet access packages.

Demand for multi-gigabit broadband continues to grow driven by cloud services and high bandwidth applications including 4K and 8K ultra-high-definition (UHD) TV streaming, virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). Many service providers are now offering multi-gigabit Internet plans and the result is that subscribers need to upgrade their wireless LAN to take full advantage of these services. Wi-Fi network bandwidths have in the past easily exceeded the bandwidths delivered through traditional, copper-based, broadband and cable networks. With fiber to the premises (FTTP) and cable upgrades to DOCSIS4.0 this is only the case where wireless LANs use the latest gateways and take advantage of the full Wi-Fi spectrum available with Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E.

The bandwidths supported by Wi-Fi have been continually increasing. Wi-Fi 4 added the 5 GHz band to the existing 2.4 GHz band and increased the data rates. Wi-Fi 5 further increased the data rates for the 5 GHz band. Wi-Fi 6 adopted in 2019 significantly increases spectral efficiency by using orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA) delivering lower power consumption for a given data rate, increased data rates and reduced latency. Wi-Fi 6E adopted a year later adds support for the 6 GHz band which significantly increases the bandwidth available and gives additional flexibility to use this separate band for extending Wi-Fi coverage. Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E are both covered by the IEEE802.11ax specifications and together they can deliver multi-gigabit bandwidths up to 10 Gbit/s and beyond.

To deliver the full benefits of multi-gigabit Internet access packages service providers should offer subscribers a wireless gateway solution that supports a 10GE WAN, 10GE LAN port, and tri-band Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E wireless bandwidths with support for wireless mesh technology to give smooth data streaming and seamless Wi-Fi across a whole home or business location. To ensure the best user experience the wireless gateway solution should have a non-blocking design and support remote management via TR-069. TR-069 provides an application layer protocol that allows service providers to manage, configure, monitor, and diagnose client devices remotely without impacting users. This remote management capability saves on support time and maintenance costs for service providers.

The Zyxel EX7710 Wi-Fi 6E 10G Ethernet Gateway supports all the features needed for 10G wireless and wired LAN, and 10G Internet access. The gateway is a non-blocking design and integrates a 10GE WAN port, 10GE LAN port and tri-band Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E wireless LAN. The Zyxel EX7710 delivers speeds of up to 4.8 Gbit/s on the 6 GHz band, 4.8 Gbit/s on the 5 GHz band and 1.1 Gbit/s on the 2.4 GHz band. The Zyxel WX5610 Wi-Fi 6E Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Extender works seamlessly with the EX7710 to provide self-adapting, easy-to-manage whole-home Wi-Fi coverage, enhancing user experience and reducing service provider support costs. Both systems implement TR-069 remote management and Zyxel’s Wi-Fi EasyMeshZyxel’s Wi-Fi EasyMesh compliant MPro Mesh Plus Solutions to deliver smart and efficient Wi-Fi throughout the home.

Wireless and wired LAN bandwidths in homes and businesses need to at least match the multi-gigabit Internet access speeds now being delivered by service providers. By deploying wireless gateways that support Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E service providers can enable the cost-effective upgrade of wireless LAN to 10 Gbit/s and ensure users enjoy superior connectivity and extremely low latency. The Zyxel EX7710 Wi-Fi 6E Ethernet Gateway provides tri-band Wi-Fi and when combined with the Zyxel WX5610 Wireless Extender provides a whole-home Wi-Fi solution for service providers and their customers.
