LITTLETON, Colo. -- DataAccess Telecom Ltd., the wholly owned subsidiary of DataAccess America and Data Access India, today announced that it has acquired full Annex II Status in the United Kingdom. Granted by the Office of Communication (Ofcom), the United Kingdom’s telecommunications regulatory body, Annex II Status entitles DataAccess Telecom Ltd. to the rights and obligations to interconnect under the European Council Interconnection Directive.

Data Access is India’s fastest growing telecommunications company. It provides global wholesale data and voice services through the Data Access Global Network, which includes the switching facilities of both DataAccess America and DataAccess Telecom. The company’s existing network in the United Kingdom is equipped with two switches in London with a combined capacity to handle 18 million minutes of voice traffic per day.

The Annex II license enables DataAccess Telecom to leverage direct interconnect terms with carriers, as well as to set up Points of Presence and Network Centers within European Union countries. This will further augment the company’s presence in the United Kingdom and allow it to capitalize on the voice traffic from European countries to advanced telecommunications markets across the globe.

“Since day one of operation, our goal for the London facility has been to create a global clearinghouse operation. Within just four months of setting up this operation, we have achieved full Annex II Status from Ofcom, delivering on our promise to expand our global operation base by acquiring additional licenses in markets of interest,” said Ashutosh Misra, president and CEO of DataAccess America. “We expect to improve margins by five to seven percent by directly interconnecting with the access providers in the European Union and cater to their growing voice traffic needs. The European Union countries have robust voice traffic to North America, Canada, Mexico and India, which maps ideally to our network infrastructure.”

Thangaraj Durairaj, vice president and country manager for Data Access Telecom Ltd. added, “The Full Annex II Status will strengthen our position as a globally competitive telecom company. Direct interconnect terms with European telecom carriers and network operations within the European Union will enable us to capitalize on lucrative North American, Mexican and Spanish telecom markets.”
