STOCKHOLM -- Transmode, a global supplier of packet optical networking solutions, today announced that Yahoo Japan, a major Japanese Internet company, has deployed Transmode's 10G Metro WDM. The new high-speed optical interconnection is designed to handle the increased capacity between key nodes that provide connection to both Yahoo Japan's data centers and their service provider customer base.
Yahoo Japan is one of the largest and most innovative internet providers in Japan, and due to its ongoing success is currently enjoying increased traffic from both residential and business services. This in turn is driving the need for extra capacity between its data center facilities. At these data centers there is a huge number of servers and both space and power are limited, so Transmode's TM-Series solution with its small footprint and low power consumption is ideally suited to the task.
The new deployments provide connectivity between key nodes in the Yahoo Japan network. Yahoo Japan's customers connect into the Yahoo Japan network at these nodes to gain access to services and data hosted within Yahoo Japan's data centers.
Nobuhiro Takasawa, VP, Technical Director, System Management Group at Yahoo Japan, commented, "We were looking for a solution which had a small footprint, low power consumption and which offered flexible design from low to high-capacity and would enable us to dynamically expand network-capacity when required. Transmode's TM-Series met these demands but, most importantly, its Enlighten management system is simple to understand and enables easier day-to day operation."
