Cypress Semiconductor samples single-chip LAN PHY for 10-Gigabit Ethernet
September 25, 2002
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 25, 2002--Cypress Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE:CY) today announced that it is sampling POSIC10GLAN(TM) (CY7C9548-FAC), a 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10 GbE) LAN PHY that enables inter-campus and intra-campus, geographically dispersed enterprise backbones and data centers to send 10 GbE directly over optical fiber up to 40 kilometers (km). POSIC10GLAN enables the longest round-trip connection of any LAN PHY on the market (20 km under worst-case network conditions). This enables enterprises to progress to 10 GbE fiber networks, from existing lower bandwidth ATM and GbE backbones. POSIC10GLAN's large buffers enable efficient network flow control, maintaining data integrity with no packet loss under increasing network congestion. POSIC10GLAN supports industry-standard interfaces with 10 GbE sixteen-bit interface (XSBI) on the line side and system packet interface (SPI-4.2) on the system side. "The need for low-cost, high-bandwidth enterprise backbones will drive 10 GbE deployment," said Gahan Richardson, senior product marketing manager of Cypress's Data Communications Division. "Reliability is key to 10 GbE over fiber. POSIC10GLAN, with its large buffers and efficient flow control, enables flexible network architectures with guaranteed zero packet loss."
