SAN DIEGO -- CrossFiber, Inc., a privately held photonic switch company, announced today that it will start supplying characterization samples of its groundbreaking all-optical switch to a handful of select strategic customers in early March.

Less than a year ago, the company had announced the development of the industry's first MxN optical switch to be offered at $50 per optical port, a fraction of the cost of optical switches previously offered by others. CrossFiber will hold performance characterization test sessions by invitation at its headquarters in San Diego, California during OFC 2008, February 25-28, 2008 for industry leaders. The company will also have a fully automated unmanned booth at OFC, possibly a first of its type.

"CrossFiber's unique combination of performance, form factor, scalability and price seems to have hit the sweet spot of many current and emerging optical switch applications," said Hus Tigli, president & CEO of CrossFiber. "Our strategic partners represent Tier 1 service providers and systems OEMs, covering applications in ROADM nodes, FTTx networks, Central Office automation and IP/OEO interface optimization."
