SAN DIEGO -- CrossFiber, Inc., a privately held photonics company, announced today that it has developed the industry’s first MxN optical switch to be offered at $99 per optical port, a fraction of the cost of optical switches being offered by any other company. CrossFiber will demonstrate an engineering sample at OFC 2007 in Anaheim, California, March 26-28, 2007 to industry VIPs by special invitation.

CrossFiber LiteSwitchTM photonic switch modules are intended for ROADMs (Re-Configurable Optical Add-Drop Multiplexers), automated fiber distribution panels and other optical switching applications in fiber optic communications networks. Scalable now to 128 by 128 ports, CrossFiber LiteSwitchTM modules are 30 mm in width, and can be mounted on line cards.

“Our goal is to become the optical switching standard,” said Hus Tigli, President & CEO of CrossFiber. “In order to do this, we basically set out to reinvent every element of photonic switching, until we shrank size, packed performance and eliminated costly technologies. The end result is that we are now able to discuss pre-production orders for our high-performance switch for only $99 per port.”
